Improvements begin with our proprietary Mass Air Flow (MAF) housing. The larger diameter housing allows precise air mass monitoring, even at extreme flow levels. Special GIAC chip tuning, with optional Switcher, integrates this signal and correspondingly controls the larger proprietary Bosch fuel injector output and turbo boost pressure. The MAF housing uses the 2001-2002 S4 Hitachi mass air sensor through the use of an ingenious adapter plate. The kit adapts the much more reliable Hitachi sensor to the 2000 S4s, which originally come with a Bosch sensor. The adapter plate and the mass air housing are CNC machined from solid T-6061 aluminum and are anodized for long service. The Mass Air housing clips onto your existing S4 air cleaner box and utilizes your existing hardware. Included with the larger MAF housing is a custom silicone connector hose to the intake Y-pipe.

Turbo response time and high rpm flow is enhanced with an optional tubular exhaust manifold set from our exhaust division. Our design utilizes T304 stainless steel tubing, CNC cut flanges, and anti-reversion collectors. The use of central collectors minimizes turbulence in the manifold, which maintains ultimate exhaust gas velocity. Maximum gas velocity in the manifold promotes more efficient evacuation of the combustion chamber, known as cylinder scavenging. The collector also works as a physical barrier to prevent the exhaust gasses from flowing backwards during cam overlap. Primary tubing size was carefully chosen to maintain as much thermal energy as ppossible in the exhaust gasses going to the turbos. The AWE Tuning tubular manifolds are one of the secrets to the broad powerband of the AWE Tuning RSK04 2.7T Turbo kit.
The AWE Tuning manifolds have a special Swain Tech coating that allows even better thermal insulation properties than the stock double-walled manifold design. This proprietary coating allows the fitment of a physically larger overall dimension header without sacrificing under hood heat control. The coating is a unique ceramic thermal barrier, commonly used for aerospace applications such as rocket nozzles, missile nose cones, and jet turbine parts.

Dyno pulls on our 2001 Audi S4 Avant, equipped with AWE Tuning RSK04 kit, AWE Tuning intercooler kit, AWE Tuning tubular manifolds and downpipes, and AWE Tuning Twin2 exhaust reveal a massive power increase to 460 hp and 455 lb/ft torque crank corrected, as tested on 93 octane pump fuel. Our kit has been able to propel the heavy S4 down the quarter mile repeatedly in the low 12 second range on pump fuel. On race fuel, power is more than doubled over stock, adding 275hp and 275ftlbs of torque! On a lightened S4 that translates to knocking on the door of the 10 second quarter mile.

There are two stages available with the RSK04 Turbo Upgrade Kit: with or without the tubular exhaust manifolds. The complete kit, with manifolds, decreases lag from the larger K04 turbochargers, and increases top-end power. Note that the dyno chart above are results with the kit including the AWE Tuning manifolds.
